Rooting is one of the pre-requisites required before installing custom recoveries and other advanced features. Now there’s a rooting guide for Motorola Atrix HD MB886, thanks to XDA Developers member djrbliss. The name of the exploit is MotoFail2Go (sounds more like an app though).
There’s no unlocking of bootloader required, and this method has been tested on SIM-free and Bell variant of the device. The method is also applicable on Photon Q, Razr I, Razr HD and Razr M. However, the main device to be used for this guide is Atrix HD model number MB886.
Before following the steps, enable USB Debugging on your phone. Install handset USB drivers, and make sure you’re using a Windows PC. Charge the battery properly and disable any security softwares on the computer as they may interfere with installation of drivers and files. Create a backup of the important files and data (help). Please note that the instructions are to be followed at your own risk, as we won’t be responsible or pay any damages if anything unfortunate happens.
Tutorial
Step 1: Download Motorola rooting file. (via)
Step 2: Connect the device to the computer through a USB cable.
Step 3: The device should be detected, and you can try re-installing the drivers if it doesn’t.
Step 4: Extract the file downloaded in step 1 anywhere on your computer.
Step 5: Open the extracted folder and find the Run.bat file in it. Double-click to launch this file.
Step 6: Follow the instructions that appear on the screen. The device will automatically reboot after the process is complete. After it does, you can unplug it from the computer.
Step 7: Wipe /data and /cache partitions in recovery mode if you receive and error (run-as: Package ‘com.motorola.bug2go’ is unknown), and start from Step 5 again.
Done, and your Motorola Atrix HD MB886 is now rooted with MotoFail2Go. Feel free to leave comments. Follow me on Google Plus for latest updates.
